Summer CSA Newsletter: July 4th, 2022 (Week 6/23)
Howdy Folks,
We hope you had a nice holiday weekend! Our eldest son turned 11 on the 4th! He is our miracle baby, born at 26.1 weeks. Our Super Premie! He’s smart, inquisitive and wildly excitable. We took the day off on the 4th from the farm to spend some quality time together as a family. We went not to the river that surrounds the farm, the Mahoning, but instead the Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle State Park, and we rafted!!! It was so peaceful to be away from cell service and just be stuck in a boat together as a family. We all had a peaceful and wonderful time! It was excellent!
Our blueberries are starting to ripen but the plants are still young so we don’t have enough yet to get everyone on one CSA day blueberries, but you will get some during this time of ripening! We planted 3 year old plants when we moved to this property in 2017. They are getting more and more productive every year. Patience is a virtue when it comes to perennial fruits. When we were planting these we were thinking of them as a good retirement investment, we could have a pick your own stand once we retire. These berries will be in their prime by then!
All the garlic has been harvested and it is hanging to dry. We grew more than ever this year, about an acre. I’ll try to get a picture of our drying situation soon! It’s pretty awesome. The walls and ceiling of our polebarn where we park the tractors is covered in garlic.
Your Farmers,
Chris, Aeros and the Who Gang
