CSA Spring Newsletter: April 23rd, 2024 (Week 1/5)

The crew planting onions!

Howdy Folks,

Happy Earth Day and Happy 2024 CSA Season!  Now finally after the long winter, fresh, organic, local food is at your fingertips. The soil of the Earth is still cool, so all of the items in your share this week except the garlic scallions are coming out of the ground in our hightunnels.  In these tunnels when the sun is shining it can get up to 100º, so we vent them to keep them around 60º..  The sweet potatoes have been in storage and are last season’s crop.  The sweet potatoes and tomato soup allow us to feel a little more comfortable offering spring shares in the hit or miss of how early or  late or spring crops can be.  It’s been grey lately with a lot of rain, and then now even colder we have had several nights of freezing temperatures.  Don’t you worry though we are set up!  We have torpedo heaters in each big high tunnel as back up to keep the tomatoes cozy warm amongst our spring greens.

This year, we've added a new section to our website! Our "Produce Guide" is meant to be a helpful tool to allow you to search for a veggie, and see nutrition information, storage tips, and recommended uses and recipes.

Cheers to the first shares of the season!  May the small bounty of this week’s share fill you with the essence of fresh spring simplicity and nourishment.  Note that the shares will be more bountiful as the soil warms!  Thank you for your support, we are so happy that you have joined us to taste the season's bounty.

Cheers,

Chris, Aeros & The Who Crew
