The Butternut Squash curing in the greenhouse! This is a process where the skin hardens and increases the shelf life for longer storage, as well as sweetens the fruit!

Hi Folks,

Week XX.

The Autumn chill is here and the hustle and bustle of summer is finally gone thanks to the consistent freezing cold temperatures.  This morning it got to be a chilly 27º.

It’s time to cook!!!  Honeynut Squash and Sweet Potatoes are not only great for dinner, but also excellent with eggs for breakfast.  Or mixed into your favorite pancake recipe.

Garlic was getting broken up this week and the planting is beginning today.  We bought some new German White seed this season, as you have probably noticed our garlic was a little pathetically small this year.  We are hoping with new seed and some new cultural practices, we can keep the head sizes larger for longer by selecting out the biggest heads for seed.  Chris is also looking into some other varieties, some that are more mild and some that are hotter.

Stay warm out there.
