Summer CSA Newsletter: July 2nd, 2024 (Week 6)
Hi Folks,
Week VI.
Happy 4th of July!
We hope you are all enjoying some picnics packed with CSA veggies today. It’s been a very busy week here on the farm so far. Cedar is turning 13 today!
Both of the boys have been working on a project this summer.. Growing raspberries! They’ve been responsible for planting, tending to, and harvesting the raspberries. They’ll be selling them this year at the markets.
The blueberries are also just beginning to ripen, and Wati has been harvesting small bins of them each day. The birds will get to them if we don’t pick them first. These will be appearing in the CSA shares soon..
There is an old adage, “Knee high by the 4th of July” which was used by farmers to determine the success of their corn crops. If the corn had grown to your knees by the 4th of July, the crop was right on track! While we don’t usually grow corn here at Who Cooks, we heard that over in Lancaster the corn had reached knee high back in June! Just some fun food for thought if you’re having corn on the cob today.
Have a safe and fun holiday!
Your Farmers,
Chris, Aeros & The Who Crew
