CSA Summer Newsletter: August 21st, 2023 (Week 13/23)

Howdy Folks,

The harvests are large as the heat has come on!  “We need more storage space!”  This is an annual conversation we have at this time of year.  So what do we do?  We build it or buy it!  Chris has a call into the guy we get our bulk bins from.  He said he will be able to get us another 25.  Meanwhile Chris is transforming the packing area of our old packshed into a bigger walkin cooler.  We are looking at bringing in a lot of winter squash and the onions are almost done curing.  The onion harvest this year is out of this world better than ever before!  We brought in 75 totes this year. So this is why we need more totes.  It’s about 800lbs of matter in a tote.  Of course this does depend on the veggie, but this is an average.  So we will be getting the onions into a walkin that is set around a steady temperature of 50 - 55 degrees.  This is an ideal storage temperature for them.  Then after the squash has cured they will join the onions!

Nice job folks on seizing the day and adding to your CSA, with an order from the Online Market.  We hope this was easy enough for you.  For those of you who couldn’t put in an order thank you for calling or emailing us.  We have a lot of food to move around, so any extra orders are always welcome.  If you are unfamiliar with our Online Market it has a lot of what we grow and have available at this time on there, so if you are wanting extra of something this is where you can find it and add an order, so you get more of something that you want more of.  In a couple of weeks we will be listing Roma Tomatoes that are well known to be good Tomato Sauce tomatoes, So if you are a Tomato Sauce Canner, please be on the lookout to add these!

Natalie has been working on getting our past Newsletters on the website.  These have some pictures, so if you are up for a glimpse into WCFY, take a gander at these here.

Enjoy your last month of summer folks.  We are entering into the last month of summer now!  I’m sure you are noticing the change in light, as the sun heads south, as do the birds.  We are noticing species gathering in numbers to make their long flight south together.

Your Farmers, Chris, Aeros and The Who Crew!
