CSA Summer Newsletter: August 28th, 2023 (Week 14/23)

Howdy Folks,

Well harvests are still as large as I said a couple weeks back.  So we are slammed harvesting, making space, and stacking as high as we can in our temperature controlled storage areas & walkin coolers.  We heard back from our bulk bin guy.  We are going to be able to purchase another 50 that we will be picking up tomorrow!  Yee haw!  Bring it on!  Yesterday we brought in 12 big totes of watermelon!  Wowzers, this is a lot of watermelons, so you know we have them available for order in bulk at the Online Market.  Think agua fresca (recipe link for agua Fresca) and dehydrated watermelon are also a super tasty treat come fall and winter when fresh mouth watering delicious melons are long gone.  We also have Cantaloupe in bulk on the store.  They are also very delicious dehydrated.  We use a melon baller to scoop out the goodness and then put these in the dehydrator on parchment paper, the drying time is about 16 hours.

At the Online Market we also now have our own San Marzano, ROMA TOMATOES available in 18# half bushel for you tomato sauce makers out there.  Bulk 18# half bushels for our Tomatillo, Salsa Verde canners out there. Then also bulk eggplant for any BABA makers out there.  Babaganoush freezes quite well with a layer of olive oil on top!  We also have in bulk organic apples from Maria Kretschmann.  The current available varieties are Pristine and Redfree Apples.  The Pristine are well known to be a great pie apple!  Last but not least Hatch Chillies are also available in bulk, these are great to roast on the grill and then freeze for any sort of winter treat!

Something to look forward to… the Autumn CSA sign up is getting closer to the top of our list of things to get done!!  So be on the lookout!  Hopefully next week!!!

Cheers,
Your Farmers
