CSA Summer Newsletter: August 22nd, 2022 (Week 13/23)
Hi Folks,
We were asked by one of our members to talk about fertilizer costs and if we’ve been hit hard by the rising costs on that end. At first the answer was going to be “no.”...that was until I called our fertilizer company.
Last year, we bought our fertilizer in November. I like to do that for all of our potting soil and fertilizer. That way it’s here before the weather gets dangerous and they sometimes give us a discount. We saw a minimal increase that seemed normal.
I relayed this to customers and further explained that synthetic petroleum based fertilizers are increasing in cost which we do not use. We use Organic approved fertilizers. When I open a bag I smell the ocean.
Our fertilizer company just informed me that we’re going to see a price increase of approximately 20% this year. They’re creating different sorts of blends using different types of nitrogen sources to keep costs down. Specifically nitrogen and phosphorus sources are the macronutrients increasing in cost at the moment.
I hope this email made you fall asleep and gave you the nap you needed.
Your Farmers,
Aeros, Chris and The Who Crew
