CSA Summer Newsletter: July 3rd, 2023 (Week 6/23)

Howdy Folks,

Is it gonna stop raining for a second?  Well, you know what I mean.  I hear not everyone is getting as much rain as we have in the last week but we easily cleared 4 inches of rain.

What does that mean for a vegetable farmer?

Too much water…We take advantage of it the best we can.

Most field work besides harvest is cut off.  When fields are very muddy, it makes all work much more difficult. Mud sticks to everything.  The work becomes more like mud management with hands, totes, boots, knives etc. Driving around any heavy vehicle/machinery is damaging to the roadways ect making deep grooves.  These then accumulate with water  in the following rain storms and the issues are compounded

Just imagine driving vehicles over and over again in your yard…that’s how its starting to look around here.

We can’t weed with any of our small cultivating tractors and the weeds now have their opportunity to reclaim some space in the fields…when it was dry, our fields were so clean it was amazing.

Whats exciting in the fields right now?

We should soon be rolling in Blueberries, tomatoes, beans…

We’re eagerly awaiting more summer produce to come rolling in.

Enjoy your produce this week!
