Summer CSA Newsletter: August 13th, 2024 (Week 12)

Beautiful blooms on the Okra.

Week XII.

Hi Folks,

This week’s direct and transplanted seedlings were the last of the field crops to be seeded for 2024.  These crops will be harvested in late September - November. They were, Arugula, Bok Choy, Radishes, Turnips, Cilantro, Dill, Spinach & Head Lettuce.  Wati seeded all the plants that are seeded in seedling flats and then transplanted out to the field.  Chris does all the direct seeding on the farm with a tractor mounted seeder.

Today, Friday the crew is doing a lot of transplanting out to the field, the middle fall secessions of the crops listed above that were seeded by Wati several weeks ago.

A crop that was new for us to grow this year has been Okra.  It’s been an interesting trial.  We have learned that it needs to be harvested pretty often to keep the Okras on the smaller side, otherwise their seeds are huge and they are tough.  It’s a beautiful plant that looks a lot like hibiscus!

We are figuring out our next farm events for the season now, so be on the lookout for an email next week with posted dates for farm visits in the month of September and October!

Thank you all for your support and good appetite!  We love growing for you!
